Master Class

Master Classes offer an opportunity for middle and high school students to sing for a Music Director, dance for a Dance Captain, act with a Broadway Professional, take a backstage tour with a Production Stage Manager or receive constructive critiques from Actors to better individual skills.  This successful program gives students a taste of the world of Theater, allowing them to participate in workshops led by cast members of touring productions.  A typical Master Class begins with a 1-hour lesson about the show with RBTL's Director of Education and Outreach, Bob Sagan.  Students then attend a 90 minute workshop with Touring Broadway Professionals focusing on vocal, acting, dance or technical skills.  Following the Master Class is an in-depth Q&A with the performers where students can learn the ins and outs of the industry.  Pizza dinner is provided and students attend that evening's performance at the Auditorium Theatre.  This is a creative, hands-on experience for those involved in performing arts.

The orientation session, the Master Class and dinner typically take place at the School of the Arts, located at 45 Prince Street, one block from the Auditorium Theatre. The orientation session runs from 3:30pm-4:30pm, the Master Class is held from 4:30pm-6:00pm, dinner is provided post-Master Class and the show begins at 7:30pm.  The performance is at the Auditorium Theatre, 885 East Main Street.  Parents and students are notified of drop-off and pick-up instructions prior to each individual class as there are some variations based on the show.

Participation is open to all middle and high school students in grades 8-12 who have an interest in pursuing a career in the performing arts or are involved in their school's Theatre program. For acceptance in the program, students must complete a required application and pay a $65 fee that includes an orientation session, the Master Class, dinner and a ticket to that evening's performance. Students select their first, second and third choice for a class from a schedule printed on the application. Within a two-week period, they will be notified as to which class they will attend. The RBTL Master Class season offers classes in vocal, acting, dance and technical.
